EWM integration with non-SAP system using IDOC -GR process

SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) enables seamless integration with third-party systems through diverse methods, such as IDoc (Intermediate Document). IDoc serves as the standard SAP format for data exchange among disparate systems. The integration of SAP EWM with a third-party system via IDoc entails multiple steps.

IDoc Interface step from external system to EWM system using goods receipt process

This blog will explain the scenario related to receiving the goods receipt information from 3rd party system to sap EWM system. In 3rd party the goods receipt posting is already done and now we have to update the same GR information in EWM system.

  1. Creating the inbound delivery in EWM -> On receiving the IDOC form 3rd party the EWM will create the inbound delivery followed by auto WT (using PPF) and confirmation.

The goods receipt can be done in two ways using IDOC:

IDOC – MBGMCR02

  1. Using synchronous goods movement in EWM system. -> On receiving the IDOC from 3rd party the EWM will create the goods movement posting directly in EWM system and also create the post goods receipt WT task using synchronous goods movement.

Preparation in the Non-SAP System

  1. Data Extraction: Extract the goods receipt data from the non-SAP system. This data typically includes information such as purchase order number, material number, quantity, batch number, supplier information, etc.
  2. IDoc Creation: Format the extracted data into an IDoc structure. The IDoc type commonly used for goods receipt in SAP EWM is MBGMCR02 , MBGMCR04 .

Preparation in SAP EWM system

Function Module: Develop or use an existing function module that can process the goods receipt IDoc and create the necessary documents in SAP EWM (e.g., warehouse tasks, handling units).
