EWM integration with non-SAP system using IDOC -GR process
SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) enables seamless integration with third-party systems via various methods, including IDocs (Intermediate Documents). Since IDoc in SAP is the standard communication format for structured data exchange, it becomes the core enabler for automating inbound logistics.
IDoc Interface step from the external system to the EWM system using the goods receipt process
This blog explains the scenario for receiving goods receipt information from a 3rd-party system into the SAP EWM system. For the 3rd party, the goods receipt posting has already been done, and we now need to update the same GR information in the EWM system.

- Creating the inbound delivery in EWM -> On receiving the IDOC form from the 3rd party, EWM will create the inbound delivery, followed by auto WT (using PPF) and confirmation.
The goods receipt can be done in two ways using IDOC:

-
Using synchronous goods movement in the EWM system. -> On receiving the IDOC from the 3rd party, the EWM will create the goods movement posting directly in the EWM system and also create the post goods receipt WT task using synchronous goods movement.

Preparation in the Non-SAP System
- Data Extraction: Extract the goods receipt data from the non-SAP system. This data typically includes information such as purchase order number, material number, quantity, batch number, supplier information, etc.
- SAP EWM IDoc Creation: Format the extracted data into an IDoc structure. The IDoc types commonly used for goods receipt in SAP EWM are MBGMCR02 and MBGMCR04.
Preparation in the SAP EWM system
Function Module: Develop or use an existing function module to process the goods receipt IDoc and create the necessary documents in SAP EWM (e.g., warehouse tasks and handling units).
Field Mapping on receiving the information from non-SAP to SAP EWM to create the Inbound delivery
Using Inbound delivery.
Accurate mapping ensures that every segment and field in the IDoc SAP structure is correctly updated in the EWM inbound delivery or synchronous goods movement.
