With this feature, you have automatic posting of goods receipt and consumption from discrete manufacturing and process manufacturing in Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) embedded in SAP S/4HANA and Inventory Management at the same time without creating delivery and warehouse request documents.
The system can post the goods receipts and backflush consumptions together in one material document.
Pre-requisite configuration settings.
To activate synchronous goods movement posting, follow the below IMG path,
SCM Extended Warehouse Management- Extended Warehouse Management- Interfaces- ERP Integration- Goods Movements- Settings for Synchronous Goods Movements (MIGO)- Activate Synchronous Goods Movements in the Warehouse
WPT assigned in below config will be used for creating a putaway task. Also, the staging area updated in this WPT will be used at the time task creation.
SCM Extended Warehouse Management- Extended Warehouse Management- Interfaces- ERP Integration- Goods Movements- Settings for Synchronous Goods Movements (MIGO)- Make Settings for Synchronous Goods Movement Posting
If you want to use automatic putaway warehouse task creation for the synchronously posted goods receipt, you can configure it in the following ways:
The system automatically creates putaway warehouse tasks for the storage type in which the goods receipt is posted. The storage type allows the warehouse process type to decide if the system automatically creates warehouse tasks.
SCM Extended Warehouse Management- Extended Warehouse Management- Master Data- Define Storage Types
SCM Extended Warehouse Management- Extended Warehouse Management- Cross-Process Settings- Warehouse Task- Define Warehouse Process Type
You can choose the process indicator for the warehouse process type based on if the receipt is for a packed or an unpacked item, and if it is from synchronous goods movement in general or specifically from production.
SCM Extended Warehouse Management- Extended Warehouse Management- Cross-Process Settings- Warehouse Task- Determine Warehouse Process Type
You must choose to allow synchronous goods issue and goods receipt in the Post Synchronously to Bin field in the following Customizing activities
Production-Shop Floor Control-Master Data-Define Production Scheduling Profile for Discrete Manufacturing
Pre-requisite Master data set up –
For finished and semi-finished products, the system reads the bin from the production version.
Automatic Goods Receipt function in SAP enables the production supervisor to perform Goods Receipt automatically of finished goods on recording Confirmation of production order. This Automation can be achieved using either production scheduling profile or control key. In this case, we are using control key to achieve this functionality.
Control key used here is GRC9.
To see the configuration settings of control key goto tcode OP00
In the production order we can see that backlush indicator is activated. This indicator in production order can either be updated manually or it can be copied from MRP2 view of material master or from production work center.
Backflushing provides the option to perform Goods Issuance of raw as well as semi-finished materials automatically, as soon as the person overseeing production records confirms that the finished product has been produced
PSA in ERP is created using PK05 transaction code.
In the component we can see that PSA is defaulted.
PSA is replicated to EWM, and staging bin assigned in transaction /scwm/psastage
After confirmation of production order in CO11N we can see that a material document is posted for both the movement types i.e. 101 and 261
For line-item number 10 i.e. for finished goods, In Material document display we can see that warehouse document and putaway task is automatically created and updated.
For line item 20 i.e. for raw materials we can see that warehouse document is updated. In this case, Goods issue happens from PSA bin automatically. Pre-requisite is, PSA bin should have the stock available.

Conclusion
In conclusion, implementing EWM Synchronous Goods Movement for confirmations in both discrete and process manufacturing offers significant benefits, from real-time inventory updates to enhanced process efficiency. Leveraging these capabilities can lead to improved tracking, reduced manual work, and streamlined operations, helping manufacturers meet the demands of modern supply chains.
