SAP EWM Exception Scenario: Over-Under picking with auto-delivery adjustment.

Exception Handling

In SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), effectively handling exceptions plays a crucial role in the smooth operation of warehouse processes and the quick resolution of any disruptions. It is essential to understand key concepts related to exception handling.

  • Within the EWM system, you can assign exception codes to classify different types of exceptions based on their severity and impact on warehouse operations. By prioritizing these codes, you can determine the appropriate actions to be taken for each exception.
  • Creating rules allows you to activate specific actions when exceptions occur, such as sending notifications, redirecting workflow, or adjusting priorities. These actions help ensure a timely response and minimize the impact of exceptions on warehouse operations.
  • Maintaining business context is vital in exception handling. This involves integrating special exception codes within the relevant business processes, such as confirming warehouse tasks and conducting physical inventory counts.
  • The connection between business context and execution steps is facilitated by internal process codes. These codes, provided by SAP, serve as parameters that govern internal processes when executing an exception code. By aligning business requirements with execution steps, you can streamline exception handling and enhance overall efficiency in warehouse operations.

The exception handling can be maintained at the Delivery item level.

Process Flow:

The Delivery with an open Warehouse task will be considered for over-picking/under-picking.

– When the warehouse operator picks the quantity from the source and confirms the warehouse task, there is an opportunity for them to understand and pick an extra quantity than what was originally mentioned in the outbound delivery or original demand. This allows for flexibility and the potential for increased efficiency in fulfilling orders.

Let’s get the warehouse task confirmed and prioritize it. We’ll quickly identify the source bin and the destination bin. With efficient execution, we can successfully complete this task and ensure smooth operations in the warehouse.

Change the source target qty = 5 by actual Dest qty = 20. Use the exception code as DIFS “ Difference as Charges for Source Bin’

Optional – By utilizing the PICK -HU tab and entering the relevant packing material, you have the ability to create a pick HU that is distinct from the source HU. Alternatively, you can also opt for automatic packing, which will generate a new HU to efficiently store your materials. This feature provides you with the flexibility and convenience to organize your inventory in a way that best suits your needs.

Change the Pick HU (optional)

Full HU Withdrawal: In case the Full HU is not withdrawn then uncheck the option so that the system can pick the partial HU at the time of picking.

Click on Confirm and Save so that the system can Adjust the WT and simultaneously adjust the EWM delivery qty from 5 to 20 qty.

The Warehouse task gets created and the Warehouse task qty will get updated from 5 to 20 with updated Pick HU.

Check the EWM delivery qty also gets updated automatically. The process code -O001 gets triggered automatically in the background to adjust the delivery qty.

Perform the GI and the delivery quantity in the S/4 side will also get updated.
