In SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), the concepts of “pick point” and “auto-creation of pick handling units (HUs)” are related to the process of picking goods in a warehouse. Let me break down these concepts for better understanding:
Pick Point
- A pick point designates a specific location in a warehouse where personnel select items for outbound delivery or other operational procedures.
- Essentially serving as the initial phase of the picking process, the pick point dictates the precise area where warehouse personnel need to physically collect items for a designated order or task.
- In SAP EWM, the system configures the pick point by taking into account various factors such as storage type, storage bin, picking strategy, and additional criteria.
Auto Creation of Pick Handling Units (HUs):
- In a warehouse, personnel use handling units (HUs) to group products together, facilitating easier handling and tracking. Examples of handling units include pallets, cartons, or other containers.
- Auto creation of pick HUs refers to the automatic generation of handling units during the picking process.
- When personnel pick items from the warehouse shelves, they often group them into handling units to simplify transportation and enhance efficiency.
- Configuring SAP EWM to automatically create these handling units during the picking process streamlines the workflow and reduces manual effort.
Scenario
The requirement involves performing a partial pick. Utilize the pick point functionality for this purpose and ensure the automatic creation of pick handling units (HUs). Begin by picking and moving full pallets to the pick point. Subsequently, create pick HUs in the designated pick points.
Configurations steps-
Considering this scenario, where partial picking is necessary, it is advisable to have two storage types. Storage type 1 which holds the pallets and storage type 2 which will act as pick point storage type.

Pick point storage type AKPP with a role as B. This storage type is the one which will also act as a work centre. Make sure that the correct role is assigned to this storage type.
In this storage type make sure to activate the below config.

In this work centre config, make sure to enter the external step if you are using the POSC setup. The work step should be related to the picking activity.
LOSC configuration. In this configuration, we can see that any picking happening from AKPL storage type will go through pick point storage type AKPP.

Master data.
A pick Point bin needs to be created in the Pick Point storage type using /SCWM/LS01 transaction. This bin needs to be assigned in the LOSC config.
Make sure to perform the sorting of the bin using /scwm/sbst transaction.
Pick HU will be created automatically and for that, we need to make sure to have one virtual bin created under the pick point storage type.
Assign this virtual bin to the starting point using transaction /scwm/packspec
For auto-creation of pick HU, a generic pack spec needs to be created using transaction/scwm/packspec.
Make sure to create a condition record using condition 0BDL condition type
This 0BDL condition type is assigned to the procedure 0BDL
And the procedure is defaulted at the warehouse-level configuration.

Test scenario using GUI transaction.
Note: The below step can also be performed using the RFUI transaction code.
ODO is created to perform loose pick.
we can see that stock is available in the source with full case of 50 EA.
A task is created to move the full case HU to the pick point and one more task is created in hold status to move the stock from the pick point to the next destination area.
Confirm the task. At the time of confirmation of the task, pick HU will be generate in the background.
After confirming the task, HU must be in the pick point work centre. Follow-on product WT was also created to move the stock from the pick point to the next destination storage type.
Goto transaction /scwm/pack and check the details by providing both a virtual bin and a pick point bin.
HU 8000000115 is the pick HU and 800000080 is the full HU which is moved from the source to this pick point.
In this step, we need to drag and drop the task from source hu to pick hu. After the task is completely transferred pick hu can be marked as completed.
